◇ A brief explanation of Edo Kiriko The history of Edo Kiriko began in 1834, and the technology developed during the Meiji period, when cut glass became popular.
Thanks to improvements in quality and research and development, Edo Kiriko developed rapidly from the Taisho period to the early Showa period, and was eventually designated a national traditional craft.
Today, we place emphasis on beauty and quality, and aim to preserve and develop our traditions.

For an official explanation, please refer to the Edo Kiriko Cooperative Association website.

◇ Kiriko is the process of cutting (slicing/grinding) glass.
Therefore, no matter who cuts the glass, it will become Kiriko.

So, you may be wondering, what is "Edo Kiriko"?
Simply put, think of Edo Kiriko as a brand name.
*There will likely be mixed opinions, so please consider this as merely the writer's opinion.

Some of you may have seen Kiriko with names similar to Edo Kiriko, such as "Satsuma Kiriko," "Tenma Kiriko," and "Otaru Kiriko," which are named after places.
Many customers ask what the difference is between these Kiriko and Edo Kiriko.
Although there are differences in the detailed techniques, presentation, and concepts,
The simple difference is the "place of origin" and "brand name."
