Edo Kiriko is a delicate craft made by artisans. To preserve its beauty, it is essential to correctly understand the properties of the glass material and handle it appropriately. This time, we will answer questions from customers based on a scientific perspective and practical experience.
1. Temperature Changes and Risk of Damage
Q. Can I use a dishwasher or dryer?
A. As a general rule, use is prohibited.
Edo Kiriko (soda-lime glass) is not heat-resistant glass. There is a very high risk of breakage due to high temperatures in dishwashers or sudden temperature changes (thermal shock) during drying. Also, to prevent chipping from contact during washing, please always hand wash.

Q. Can I use it for hot drinks (e.g., shochu with hot water)?
A. It is only suitable for room temperature or cold liquids. Use with hot liquids is entirely at your own risk.
There is no numerical standard for "how much heat it can withstand." The cause of breakage is not the temperature itself but the "temperature difference." Pouring hot liquids into a cold glass carries a very high risk and is not recommended by our workshop.
*Microwaves, ovens, and direct flames are all strictly prohibited.
2. Maintenance and "White Cloudiness"
Q. What should I do if dirt accumulates in the cut grooves?
A. Gently brush with a "kamenoko tawashi" (palm brush).
Dirt in the intricate pattern grooves cannot be removed with a sponge alone. Using a neutral detergent and scrubbing along the grooves with a brush is a traditionally effective method. The trick is to wash carefully, not forcefully.

Q. The glass has become cloudy. Can it be cleaned?
A. We cannot determine if it can be cleaned without actual testing.
Surface dirt can be washed off, but if the glass has deteriorated internally due to long-term neglect, its original transparency cannot be restored. "Regularly rinsing with water and using it" is the best maintenance.
3. Repairs for Damaged Items
Q. Can a chipped glass be "re-ground"?
A. As a general rule, we do not accept them.
This is because repairs involve many risks and disadvantages for the customer, as follows:
- There is a risk that the entire piece may break during the repair process, and we cannot offer compensation in such cases.
- The risk of future breakage after repair and a decrease in strength due to changes in shape are unavoidable.
- Shipping costs are entirely borne by the customer, and the repair fee will not be finalized until after the work is completed.
- We strictly refuse repairs for products from other companies.
For these reasons, considering safety, we recommend purchasing a new product.
