Edo Kiriko Craftsman Interview

Mr. Asano talks about "the joy of cutting glass" and the expanding world of expression.

1. Why did you become an Edo Kiriko craftsman?

Mr. Asano: I decided to become an Edo Kiriko craftsman because I loved the process of cutting glass. Cutting allows for an astonishing variety of expressions, and that process was very appealing to me. As I explored it, I encountered traditional techniques and was drawn to their profound depth, which led me to pursue this path.

2. What is the appeal of Edo Kiriko?

Mr. Asano: Its appeal lies in the wide range of expressions possible, even while using traditional techniques and patterns. Each craftsman has their own individuality, which is reflected in their work, so even if they use the same techniques, completely different pieces are created. I also believe that using it in daily life enriches your everyday and lifts your spirits, which is another charm.

3. What are your personal favorite products or patterns?

Mr. Asano: I like the M-8573 series and M-086. In addition to the beauty of their shape and cuts, their colors are splendid. Especially in the M-8573 series, the blue-pink and pink-green color combinations are so beautiful that I'm captivated by their beauty every time I pick them up.

4. If you were to recommend a product to customers looking to buy Edo Kiriko, what would it be?

Mr. Asano: For first-time buyers or as a gift, I recommend the M-7528 series. It features a simple design yet comes in a rich variety of colors, making it suitable for many occasions. It's a piece that anyone would be delighted to receive.

5. What are your thoughts on recent Edo Kiriko trends?

Mr. Asano: In recent years, I've noticed an increase in color variations and unique designs. I believe this evolution attracts new fans and further brightens the future of Edo Kiriko.
