Yamada: My childhood dream was to "become a glassmaker." My interest in glass itself has remained unchanged since childhood, and I later studied various techniques and designs at the Tokyo Glass Art Institute. Among the many glass crafts, Edo Kiriko was what captivated me the most. Enchanted by its beauty and with a strong desire to pursue its techniques, I chose the path of an Edo Kiriko craftsman.

Yamada: The appeal of Edo Kiriko is its sparkling brilliance, like a jewel. This brilliance is created by cutting the outer surface using traditional techniques. The depth of the traditional patterns passed down from the late Edo period is also one of its charms. For example, the cuts also serve a practical purpose as non-slip surfaces. Edo Kiriko can be easily used in daily life, yet it makes you feel splendid every time you use it. And above all, the warmth unique to handmade items is the special charm of Edo Kiriko.

Yamada: All of Mitsuwa Glass's products are appealing, so it's hard to choose just one, but I especially love the expression of M-898. This design was created by Nemoto-san, and its delicate cuts and beautiful colors stand out. Also, my favorite pattern is "Kikutsunagi" (chrysanthemum connection). This pattern beautifully blends splendor and delicacy, symbolizing the tradition and beauty of Edo Kiriko.

Yamada: The product I would recommend depends on the customer's budget, purpose, and preference, but personally, I would suggest M-250. At first, I thought the color variations might not be suitable, but it looks very beautiful in person. The Kagome (basket weave) pattern and the reflection of the spheres, along with the movement created by the flowing design, are very interesting, and the chrysanthemum pattern at the bottom is finely and delicately expressed. This product beautifully harmonizes tradition and modern design, making it an item where you can fully enjoy the charm of Edo Kiriko.

Yamada: I feel that recent Edo Kiriko has become very vibrant with an increased variety of colors. In addition to traditional designs, many products with more unique and vivid color schemes have emerged, creating new appeal. I believe these changes will further expand the possibilities of Edo Kiriko and allow more people to appreciate its beauty.
