1. Why did you become an Edo Kiriko craftsman?

Hosokoji: I had a strong desire to create beautiful things with my own hands, so I aspired to become an Edo Kiriko craftsman to realize that dream. The beauty of Edo Kiriko has a special appeal, and I feel great joy in being able to create a part of it with my own hands.

2. Please tell us about the appeal of Edo Kiriko.

Hosokoji: The greatest appeal of Edo Kiriko lies in the transparency of the glass and the sparkle of its cuts. It possesses a unique elegance and beauty that no other material can achieve. The beauty of the cuts reflecting light is truly the crystallization of craftsmanship, and their brilliance captivates observers. The fact that there are new discoveries every time you hold it is also part of Edo Kiriko's charm.

3. Please tell us about your personal favorite products or patterns.

Hosokoji: My particular favorite is "Hana Kiriko" (flower-cut glass). It features delicate and beautiful cuts like a flower, and I'm moved by its beauty every time I see it. Hana Kiriko is a work that splendidly blends traditional techniques and design, and it makes me feel the potential of Edo Kiriko.

4. If you were to recommend a product to a customer who wants to buy Edo Kiriko?

Hosokoji: I recommend the 8573 series. This series features very new colors and cuts, and it's well-balanced with an affordable price. Its design is easy to use both for oneself and as a gift, so I believe it can bring joy to many people. It's especially an accessible item for those buying Edo Kiriko for the first time.

5. What do you think about recent Edo Kiriko?

Hosokoji: Currently, the world of Edo Kiriko is at a very interesting stage as artisans are transitioning to a new generation. Challenging designs and new endeavors are constantly emerging, broadening the scope of design. I feel that these new movements are adding further appeal to Edo Kiriko. I believe it's important to continue preserving tradition while pursuing new possibilities.
