Why does Glass Studio Saiho insist on using soda glass?
Please see the first article here: What is the difference between crystal glass and soda glass? (Explanatory series vol. 4)
In the first part, we introduced the material differences between crystal glass and soda glass. In this second part, we will delve deeper into why we at Glass Studio Saiho are so committed to soda glass.

Why is Edo Kiriko so expensive?
All Edo Kiriko is handmade by artisans. It is not a mass-produced product, and each piece is made with skill and passion. Naturally, this makes it more expensive, but it is well worth it.
We only use genuine Japanese crystal glass (lead oxide 24% or more) and high-quality Japanese soda glass . We do not use cheap glass materials made in China or elsewhere.
The appeal of soda glass and our commitment
① Lightweight and easy to handle
Soda glass is lighter than crystal glass, making it suitable for everyday use. It is especially popular as a gift because it is light and unbreakable.
② Achieving high quality while keeping prices low
By reducing material costs, we are able to offer our products at more affordable prices to our customers. However, we do not compromise. With the skill of our artisans, we can bring out the brilliance of soda glass that rivals that of crystal.
③ Craftsmen are in charge of the entire process
In the Saiho style, one craftsman is responsible for everything from polishing to finishing. The "hand polishing" process in particular requires time and concentration, and is the true essence of craftsmanship.

Rather than the material, it's about "how to utilize it"
This is not to say that crystal glass is bad. Neither is good or bad, but rather the important thing is the "technology that brings out the best in the material."
At Glass Studio Saiho, we create products that make the most of the charm of soda glass, producing pieces that can bring special moments to your everyday life.
